Day 10 – Friday January 4th
Today’s quote: “When God puts love and compassion in your heart toward someone, He’s offering you an opportunity to make a difference in that person’s life. You must learn to follow that love. Don’t ignore it. Act on it. Somebody needs what you have.”
Johanna and Sharon led devotions again this morning addressing the issue of showing love to the people we come in contact with over here. It was a good reminder for us given that we had a long day of work ahead of us and we wanted to make a significant impact.
Our McKean work was split into two groups, one continuing the painting around the hospital building and the other sanding back some furniture and then restaining it. What started as 4 chairs and a coffee table soon increased to include a chest of drawers, a desk and some magazine racks. Both groups smashed out their respective jobs and one staff member at the hospital commented that they had not seen other groups finish as much work in one day as the two groups had completed today. As usual on a McKean work day, we lunched at the khao soi shop and enjoyed the spring rolls and satay sticks as well.
Then it was off to Agape for the afternoon playtime, and the children had the option of craft, sports or just hang time.
Tonight as a team we spent time putting 1980 magazines into envelopes and preparing them for the Free Burma Rangers annual mailout. Our aim is to have about 5000 completed and ready by Tuesday so we can put postage stamps on them and send them out all over the world. We are on the lookout for famous people as we put the address labels on.
We finished the night with small group studies, and some preparation for Sunday school.
Tomorrow we are back at Agape in the morning to run some activities and games. We are also sending a team back to Laura’s place to do some painting. This will be followed by an afternoon with the girls from the New Life Centre, a home for hilltribe girls rescued from exploitative situations. Our time will be spent playing sports, sharing a worship time and then going out to dinner together. These girls love the chance to improve their English and they provide us with a reality check when we see their passion and enjoyment of the worship time together. It will be yet another memorable event in our time here.
Have a great weekend,
